Anita Williams Obituary

Anita Annette Williams was born in Portland Oregon on December 4, 1949, to the late Adolphe Williams and Ethel James Williams-Thornton. In 1967 Anita graduated from Thomas Jefferson high school and was blessed with her son Ronald Eugene Williams in June of that summer.  Shortly after, she began working as a candy striper at Emmanuel Hospital while studying cosmetology.

As she matured in life, by the 1980s she gave her life to Jesus Christ. Anita was planted in her church home as a devoted member of Emmanuel Temple Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. During her time as a member, she immediately began working within her gifts of charity, compassion for the lost, and generously helping others.

Anita, also known as Nita, many can attest to her unique gift and ability to care for children who were motherless and fatherless. In the mid 80’s she began fostering children from all walks of life over a span of 35 years.

In pursuit of her dreams to own a childcare center, in 1990 Anita founded Helping Hands Childcare Development Center, a Christian based daycare. Her ambition and love for God, led her to become an ordained minister.  Her work in the community within organizations like Urban League is where she shared the word of God to those who were lost to bring them to Jesus Christ. Later she began her own ministry, Taking it to the Streets Ministries. She was so passionate about helping others succeed in life, and even ministered and motivated inmates at prisons and leading bible studies for women at Project Network.

In other words, Nita was an Evangelist, a prophetess, visionary, woman of God, and a prayer warrior.  She was a great storyteller that would have you laughing, crying, or convicted all at the same time.  She loved to travel, adored all things beauty and fashion and she loved a good buffet. If you had the privilege and experience to hang out with Anita, you knew you would go shopping and dining out.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents the late Adolphe Williams and Ethel James Williams-Thornton, her siblings James, Adelbert, Darryl, Kenny, and her granddaughter Asia Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories; Ronald Eugene Williams and his wife Jordene Williams, three adopted children: Jamicia Williams, Malachi Byrd, Naomi Byrd, and 7 siblings, Ronald Williams, Valerie Armstrong, Peter Williams, Sheila Woods, Michael Williams, Kevin Williams, and Adolphe Williams Jr. along with 3 grandchildren Depree Williams, Felicia Byrd, and Malachi Byrd IV, and one great grandchild: Lillianna Letcher and a host of nieces and nephews.

Many have said how much they loved her and how she impacted and saved their lives.
